The stories I loved as a child

Authors and their books

Picture
Books by Beatrix Potter
Beatrix Potter was one of my favourite authors when I was a child. My mother was a fan of her work and introduced me to her books when I was quite young.
I often chose Beatrix Potter's books for my bed time story, which my mother would read, although I suspect sometimes she skipped a page here and there (as many tired mothers do). Still, I enjoyed my bedtime stories just the same. I was very fond of Beatrix Potter's books, which were filled with stories about little animals and their adventures.
In fact I was so fond of her books I still have the ones that were given to me as presents when I was a child.

'20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" - Read along book
When I was a child my parents regularly used to take me to our local library. I enjoyed trips to the library and 'shopping' for books a great deal. The library we used to go to even had a section for audio and read along books.
One of my favourite read along books was '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea' it came with a cassette tape. Some of the words in the book were a little too hard for me too read but I didn't mind because the book had great pictures, the story was narrated and a bell would chime when it was time to turn the page.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a photo of the book I used to borrow, but here is a photo of a read along book that shows a cassette tape in the left hand corner.

Alice in Wonderland - Movie
Alice in Wonderland was one of my favourite Disney movies when I was a child. Watching it on a VHS tape was a great rainy day treat, even though there were a few scary bits. I never picked a favourite part of the story, but, I did like that eating the mushroom made her grow and shrink at the most inconvenient times. And of course I loved the scene with the riddle "Why is a raven like a writing desk?"
