Lobelia Blue Eyes

11/5/2015

Picture
Lobelia Blue Eyes seem like such happy little flowers.
Their cheery bright blue ways always make me smile! They remind me that even tiny, little things can make a big difference to someone's day.

Good Morning Petunia

11/4/2015

Started day in the company of flowers. Listened to the morning birds singing in the trees.
Picture
And then, I watched a very large goanna squeeze his way through a gap in the fence!
I wonder what other delights Wednesday will reveal. I hope you all have a lovely day.
As for me, I'm off to do some illustrating.

The flower fairies

11/3/2015

I have a book called 'Spring Flower Fairies' that was given to me when I was little. I like it just as much now as I did then...maybe even more. It was written and illustrated by Cicely Mary Barker. She was born in 1895 and her first fairy book was published in 1923. It was titled 'Flower Fairies of the Spring'.
I guess beautiful words, beautiful art and beautiful books are quite like flowers; they retain their charm for a long time.
I wonder what Cicely Mary Barker, an author born in 1895, would have thought of the official flower fairies
website that showcases her illustrations, characters and books today? I think it is very pretty just like her books.

Above is a picture of the Rose fairy . She was featured on the cover of 'Flower Fairies of the Summer' which was written and illustrated by Cicely Mary Barker. Isn't she sweet?

Stopping to smell the flowers.

At the moment everything I'm working on has something to do with flowers. I'm writing about flowers, drawing flowers and in the garden they're springing up everywhere! So, I've decided my blogs for November will be flower themed too.

Dance of the Ironbarks

10/24/2015

Picture
Storm clouds crept across the sky with lightning in their bellies. Cold wind rushed through an ocean of leaves while the old ironbarks danced with thunder. And the moon watched quietly as evening faded to an ink black night.

Visit at Grandmother's house

10/6/2015

Picture
We had a great time visiting Grandmother. She had a cup of tea in the garden and told me interesting stories. Some of them were about things that happened before I was born, some were from just last week, we all especially enjoyed the ones that made us laugh so hard our stomachs ached!

Homeward bound

10/6/2015

Regardless of how exciting holidays are and how delightful it is to catch up with friends and family.
There is nothing quite like the feeling of heading home.
Picture
I hope you all enjoyed your school holidays and are also happy to be home again.

Going Coastal

10/6/2015

My grandmother lives by the seaside. When we went to stay with her, these holidays, we went for walks along the beaches.
Picture
I've always liked pandanus trees. I used to like climbing in them when I was a child, but now days I enjoy looking at them more.
Picture
They have interesting spiky leaves, some people use them for weaving.
Picture
Growing up I spent a lot of time on these beaches. They are very pretty and there is so much to see that it's easy to walk along them beside the sea for many hours.
Some of the beaches are covered in golden sand, some white sand and some are mostly rocks. They are all different, they are all beautiful, and pandanus trees grow near them all.
Picture
The beaches with rocks are interesting to explore. There are many rockpools to find, some are big and full of fish, crabs, starfish, jellyfish, sea urchins, seahorses, sea slugs, and sea weed. Some are very small like this one.
Picture
If you look at the water in the rock pools on the right angle it reflects the colours in the sky.
Picture
The sandy beaches are fun to walk, run and play on.
Picture
Some people like to play cricket, football, volley ball, fly kites, or build sandcastles on the sandbeaches.
Picture
It's fun to look for 'beach treasures' like rocks, shells, seaweed, seaglass and drift wood.
Picture
Picture
It's also fun to leave foot prints and write messages in the sand.
Picture
Watching afternoon storms roll in with their beautiful big black clouds is exciting.
Picture
Although, walking home in the rain can be cold...

School holidays

9/23/2015

What's everyone doing these school holidays?

We're looking forward to a road trip to visit my Grandmother at the seaside.
Maybe we'll go to the beach, build some sandcastles, explore the rock pools and watch the seagulls.
