Emu

Here's a photo I took of an Emu... we'll call him Mr Emu for the moment.
Picture
Mr Emu has been coming to visit most days for the last few months. He's quite funny to watch - maybe that's because emus have a very interesting way of walking. It's difficult to explain how emus walk, so let's just say at times it almost looks as though they're being deliberately dramatic, and exaggerating every step.

Now, besides the way Mr Emu walks, he has a few other interesting habits... like trying to stick his head in the car and steal the car keys, AND he also does his best to get into the shed whenever he can and peck at all the tools too!

AND he makes a lot of noise! We're pretty sure he's trying to attract an Emu friend with all the loud drumming sounds coming from his throat... I don't think it's working though because we haven't seen any other emus patrolling the yard with him.
So, we've had to keep the car windows up, the keys out of sight, and all the other shinny things hidden safely out of sight - at ALL times. Because unlike cat burglars, Mr Emu doesn't mind trying to steal keys, and other shinny things even when you're standing right next to them!
Oh yeah, and one other thing about Mr Emu - he's about 7 foot tall! That's taller than 2mts- pretty tall for a bird! Maybe next year I'll add some more photos of Mr Emu for you to look at. In the meantime, I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Personal blog by RJ Simon. This is where I post random musings and share photos from strolls around the yard, road trips, and life in the Australian bush.

I used to post updates about my writing and illustrating here too, but the website now has a updates section especially for that - all the new updates will be posted there.
So if you're looking for book release dates or things like that check the new:
     updates section.
