When I wake up one of the first things I see is the view through this window, it's a living artwork.
I hope you're all doing well and that your new year is off to a great start! I'd love to hear about what you're all planning for the year ahead. As for me, I have a big list of projects on as usual. But I'm also looking forward to going on another road trip at some stage to visit faraway friends and family.
Here's a few photos I took as we were heading home from last year's road trip. Here's a photo I took of an Emu... we'll call him Mr Emu for the moment. ![]() Mr Emu has been coming to visit most days for the last few months. He's quite funny to watch - maybe that's because emus have a very interesting way of walking. It's difficult to explain how emus walk, so let's just say at times it almost looks as though they're being deliberately dramatic, and exaggerating every step. Now, besides the way Mr Emu walks, he has a few other interesting habits... like trying to stick his head in the car and steal the car keys, AND he also does his best to get into the shed whenever he can and peck at all the tools too! Apparently a group of butterflies is called a Kaleidoscope. How cool is that?
I've always enjoyed little things, and making little things. There is just something about miniatures that I've always found fascinating.
When I was a child I used to enjoy making tiny things including foods for my toys. Sometimes I used real food but mostly I tried to stick with things like modeling clay, paper, cardboard and anything else I could find that had sculptural qualities (wet tissue paper, blue tack and beach clay to name a few). As an adult I still make enjoy making little things from time to time. It's fun! I haven't posted in a while because I've been busy researching and learning new things. Oh yes, and I have been up to something... something new... an experiment!
Now, I wasn't going to tell you anything about until I had photos and diagrams and all the other things a mad scientist needs to do an exciting experiment BUT I've decided I should at least give you a clue.... so are you ready? The first clue is: I hid something tiny and I'm never going to try to find it ever again Yesterday was a cold grey winter's day... some might even call it dreary with its overcast skies and saturated soil. None the less, I was happily sitting on my old cushion on the floor enjoying a cup of coffee, and dreaming of what wonderful winter vegetables I might plant in the coming weeks.
Cats & Teddy BearsHello everyone, I hope you're all having a great year so far. I've been enjoying the lovely cool weather we've had lately and so have the cats. They seem to sleep a lot more at this time of year and be extra snuggly. They might even remind me of teddy bears if they didn't snore quite so loudly. Speaking of teddy bears, here's a little rough sketch I did in watercolours:
Being interviewed by Just Write for Kids for the new 'Interview by Theme' section on their JustKidsLit website was so much fun!
I really like the idea of themed interviews, because they're an interesting concept. So even though interviews sometimes make me a little nervous, I couldn't resist the opportunity to have a go, and I'm glad I did because it really was fun. Here's a link to my themed interview. Do you think I did okay? Hi Everyone,
I hope you're all having a great year so far. I've been really busy over the last few months, working on various projects, reading and learning new things. You might have noticed the website looks a little different, there are some new pages and also some of the old pages are missing. The old pages that are missing will be back after they've been adjusted to suit the website's new look in the meantime I hope you enjoy the new pages. Anyway, I better get back to work so I have some thing more exciting to tell you about next time. PS.
