Arothron Meleagris

6/9/2017

Nature is full of wondrous things like the Arothron Meleagris.
As an artist, I do believe in that old saying - fact is stranger than fiction.
There are some things in this world that I tend to steer clear of painting or drawing simply because if the subject is odd so to will be any artwork based on it.
Often I look up at the sky and marvel at the clouds they can appear in such usual shapes and colours it would be difficult to accept the authenticity of a photograph of some skies and if you painted a hyper realistic painting of them people could easily assume it was an abstract imagining.
Of course, strange clouds aren't the only things that can expand our view of reality... I live in Australia, we have some pretty odd animals here but the things we see on the land really don't compare the some of the things that dwell in the oceans of the world. Yep, there are some pretty fishy, fishes out there. My favourite fantastical fish at the moment is the Arothron Meleagris.
I'm not going to draw one today and I don't haven't taken any photos of them but there are plenty of photos of them on google images - way more than I could fit on this website and the stock photo site, Getty Images, has some pretty cool pics of them too - maybe I'll buy a couple at a later date and write an mini article about them but for today I just wanted to point out the Arothron Meleagris.... they are strange little fishies indeed.
Do you have a favourite, wonderfully weird, bird, plant, animal, fish, insect, place, or factoid to tell me about? Let me know in the comments below or send me a message.
I love learning about the fantastical things all around us!

I used to post updates about my writing and illustrating here too, but the website now has a updates section especially for that - all the new updates will be posted there.
So if you're looking for book release dates or things like that check the new:
     updates section.
